Faith Formation
All clergy, religious, and lay people are called to provide an “authentic teaching of the faith.” Through our words and actions, the Catholic Christian faith is handed on, so that all will know and love God.
St. Theresa’s offers a wide range of programs—for children and adults. To register for programs, please contact the parish office. For a schedule of activities, please refer to the parish calendar.
St. Theresa's welcomes new Catholics.
Christian Formation Commission
The Christian Formation Commission (CFC) is made up of many committees and individuals that contribute to a larger overall mission of Catholic education. The CFC recommends strategic plans and policies to the pastoral coordinator regarding the education, formation and evangelizing mission of the parish. Mary Morrison, Chair (253-927-6838)
Children's Programs
Faith Formation classes for three year old and prekindergarten children meet during the 8:30 and 11am Sunday Masses, beginning in October. Kindergarten through 5th grade meet between the Masses, so that children can attend Mass with their family. Through prayer, scripture, stories, activities, service projects and music our Faith Formation teachers support parents in passing on our Catholic faith.
Children's Liturgy of the Word
During the 8:30 and 11am Masses, children are invited to follow the leader of the Children's Liturgy of the Word to the chapel where the readings and the Gospel are proclaimed using the children's lectionary. The children have an opportunity to talk about what they have heard, pray aloud together the Apostles Creed and offer their own Prayers of the Faithful. Children return to the Mass after the Homily.
Youth Ministry
All ages are welcome to the Life Teen Mass Sunday evenings at 5:00 PM during the school year. Our exceptional Life Teen Youth Choir leads the music at Mass. Youth are encouraged to serve as Hospitality Ministers, Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers, and to participate in liturgical skits. This Mass is for all ages - come and share in this Mass of Glory.
Life Teen, our high school youth program, meets Sunday nights after the Life Teen Mass. Highlights of the past year included the Archdiocesan High School Youth Convention, the annual Life Teen/Confirmation Retreat and serving at Nativity House in Tacoma. The Confirmation preparation program begins in October. Candidates for Confirmation must be at least 16 years old and a junior in high school.
Edge, our middle school program, meets on Friday nights and is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Some of our Life Teen participants volunteer as members of the Crowd Core Team. View event photos.
Adult Programs
Adult Initiation
Adults interested in learning more about our Catholic Christian faith may register in our Adult Initiation Program. Parishioners support catechumens through their journey of faith by sharing their faith journey and being available to discuss questions (sponsors). Parishioners might also adopt a catechumen by praying for that person regularly throughout the year of their faith journey. Catechists (teachers) share their understanding of topics such as prayer, scripture, Church history, sacraments, Christian morality, and social ministry. After participating, candidates wishing to become members of our Catholic Christian Community may celebrate the sacraments of initiation at our Easter Vigil Liturgy.
