Spiritual Life & Worship

“You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.” Luke 4:8

“The liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the church is directed: at the same time it is the fount from which all the church's power flows. For the aim and object of apostolic works is that all who are made children of God by faith and Baptism, should come together to praise God in the midst of God's church, to take part in the sacrifice, and to eat the Lord's supper.” – Vatican II

The Spiritual Life and Worship Commission in our parish has the responsibility of assessing the spiritual needs of the people of the parish and recommending to Linda DeMarce sacramental policies and practices consistent with the norms established by the Archdiocese and the universal Church. The commission recommends methods for spiritual and liturgical renewal. It is responsible for recommendations about the more permanent art and environmental aspects of the worship space. In addition to your active participation at Mass, there are many ways in which you can become involved in liturgy. The only requirement is your willing heart and hands, and a desire for liturgy to be the lived faith response of the community of St. Theresa's.

Altar Servers

Alter servers assist in a variety of liturgical functions needed at Mass once or twice a month. Training is provided. To become an altar server, you must be in at least the fifth grade. Adults are also welcome as well. Contact Catherine de Castro at 253-569-9828.

Alter Society

The Altar Society is involved in anything related to Liturgy, from washing and ironing of Communion linens every week, to ensuring that our worship space is ready for the Celebration of the Mass. Volunteers are always welcome!  Contact Carmela de Castro at 253-653-6437.

Art and Environment

Volunteers tap into our rich symbolic history to create an environment conducive to prayer and worship. A wide variety of skills are needed: sewing, floral arranging, painting, calligraphy, woodworking, weaving, and designing. Contact Teresa Tillman at 253-924-0729.

Hospitality

St. Theresa’s is a community in which all are welcome. In demonstration, volunteers greet our parishioners and visitors at every Mass. They also hand out hymn books, facilitate the offering, and manage doors, lighting, and so forth to ensure that the environment is clean and comfortable. After Mass, the volunteers hand out the Weekly Bulletin. They serve about once a month. Contact Angel Quant at 253-661-2355.

Lectors

A clear speaking voice and a love for the Word allow volunteers to proclaim the Word at Mass. People have stated that though it can be daunting to stand before the congregation and read the Scriptures from the Ambo of the Church, doing so has been an amazingly rewarding and growth experience. Lectors serve about once a month. Training is provided. Contact Mike Radford (253-735-4474 or Cynthia Kadoshima (253-927-8178).

Eucharist Ministers

Eucharistic ministers share in the distribution of the Risen Lord about once or twice a month. Initial and ongoing training is provided. Contact Lisa Seabolt (253) 568-0883

Music

Singers and instrumentalists support and enable the congregation's sung prayer. The music ministry at St. Theresa's provides a wide range of music—both contemporary and traditional. The ability to read music is helpful, but not a requirement. Contact Frank Lewis at the parish office.

Coffee and Donuts

Our Coffee and Donuts Ministry want the people who enter the doors of St. Theresa's to feel that they have entered a parish that is warm, caring, and a religious community. People relate to comfort food and it's a nice thing to be able to invite old and new people alike to sit at a table to talk and relax. Although it's called the Coffee and Donuts ministry, it doesn't stop there. Other social events include breakfasts, picnics, and dinners. It's a wonderful opportunity to build community at St. Theresa Parish! Contact Tom Smith at 253-927-6147.
