St. Theresa's welcomes new Catholics

On April 23, 2011, at the Easter Vigil Liturgy, St. Theresa’s Parish welcomed two newly baptized adults and one confirmed adult into the Catholic Church. They joined six children in celebrating one or more of the three sacraments of initiation in becoming Catholic: Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.
How do adults join the Catholic Church, particularly if they were not baptized Catholic as an infant? The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, or “RCIA” as it’s often called, is the process by which adults become Catholic. It’s a guided journey of faith, that culminates at Easter Vigil, marked by our celebration of Christ’s Resurrection.
These children and adults spent the past year preparing to receive the Sacraments, with the help of many people at St. Theresa’s: from sponsors, to catechists (teachers), to faithful Mass attendees. They know they are supported by the Body of Christ as represented by parishioners, as they begin their journey of lifelong faith. As they’ve often noted: this is a journey of the heart, not the head.
