Faith In Action

Above the door of St. Theresa’s Church you’ll see the words “Spread the Peace, Love and Joy of Jesus Christ.”

Each of us shares the love of Jesus Christ in our home, neighborhood, workplace, and community in a unique and personal way. Faith in Action ministries have been developed to help us do that in community. Working together the community of St. Theresa’s can make a difference in ways that cannot be accomplished by any one person working alone. Working together we can meet the needs we see in the broader community, and we get to know each other better and grow in friendship at the same time.

We invite and encourage you to call a ministry leader and become involved with other members of the parish in works of charity and advocacy that promote Life, Justice and Peace.  Willa Gaines 253-838-4081; Lynn Weinman 253-952-5152

St. Vincent de Paul Society

The St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVDP) is a lay organization of Catholic men and women who minister to the poor. St. Theresa's conference provides spiritual growth for its members while they serve the needy in our parish area. Through home visits and financial aid, members help those less fortunate through times of crisis.

The Society at St. Theresa's provided assistance to 575 calls for help in 2005-2006. Almost everybody we helped was below the ‘extremely low’ income category (<$23,350 for a family of 4).

The St. Vincent de Paul Society meets on the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 7:30 PM at the main Church. Contact Virginia/Joseph Roni 253- 838-8919.

Food Bank

Each Sunday during Mass, St. Theresa's Parishioners offer food gifts for our Food Bank. The food is delivered to those in need through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. It is a joy to see our young children walking up to the offering basket each Sunday to offer food items, knowing they are learning early in life the joy of giving. Contact Patti White 253-437-6061.

Sandwich Program

Our Parish Sandwich program offers the hand of love in simple ways to many of the hungry and homeless in our community. Parishioners make sandwiches and drop them off at the church every Wednesday and Sunday. The sandwiches are delivered to the Nativity House, which provides day shelter, meals, worship services, community and personal assistance to the homeless. Each volunteer makes about twenty sandwiches once a month. Contact Ron Vandenberg 253-835-0212, Bill Michaud 253-719-8550, or Laurie Fiorito 253-719-8496.

Eucharist for the Sick

The faithful who are ill are often deprived of their rightful and accustomed place in the Eucharistic community. In bringing communion to those who cannot be present at Mass, the minister represents the Church and manifests faith and charity on behalf of the whole community. In this way the recipients may realize that they are united not only with the Lord's sacrifice but also with the community itself and are supported by the love of their brothers and sisters.

Visits involve taking communion and offering companionship to those who are homebound or hospitalized. Your service is deeply appreciated and your rewards are boundless. Contact Mary Ann Earles 253-838-1486.

Grief Ministry

When a loved one passes, we all need a helping hand as we grieve and memorialize our loved one. St. Theresa's Grief Ministry consists of over 40 volunteers who assist St. Theresa's parishioners who request a reception. They are always ready to serve on short notice.

Contact Bernie Jacobs 253-927-2766.

Prayer Line

Quietly, anonymously - in homes, cars, offices, parks - our prayer community at St. Theresa's intercedes for those in need and hurting. The most powerful work is often done unknown to others. Contact Mary Schindler 253-952-8585 or email sttheresaprayerline@hotmail.com.

Tithing Committee

Fulfilling our responsibility to follow Christ’s preferential care of the poor, St. Theresa's donates 5% of the Sunday collection to charities and missions. Distributions are made on the basis of need and reflection of Gospel values. The Tithing Committee considers written suggestions and requests for funds for non-profit organizations. Contact Rita Keough 253-838-6218.

FUSION/Joseph Foundation

In cooperation with other area churches, FUSION provides transitional housing and case management for homeless families in the Federal Way-Tacoma area. The service includes six to eighteen weeks of residency and instruction for self-sufficiency. Contact Peggy LaPorte 253-917-1904.

Reach Out

Reach Out works in partnership with St. Theresa's and other Federal Way and NE Tacoma churches to provide shelter and meals to homeless men during the winter. Plans are being made to also open a women's shelter.

Reach Out is an official program of Catholic Community Services (CCS). CCS hires night supervision and intake workers who screen the men for a good fit with Reach Out and being around our many volunteers. Counselors are available to the men through CCS and Valley Cities Counseling and Consultation. With this help, some of the men move on to more stable living situations.

If you can help or would like more information, you can contact Nancy Jaenicke at 253-927-4448 or Willa Gaines at 253-838-4081 or Laurie Fiorito at 253-719-8496.
